Greg Wolf
In 2006 we honored Greg Wolf. Greg, a St John’s and St. Joe’s Prep alumni, was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 20 while a student at Duke University. One of six children, Greg played St. John’s CYO sports and cheered the Blue Devils as a child and lived the dream to be a student there. He continued going to school during treatments and at graduation he was honored by the School of Economics as one of its most determined scholars. He approached his diagnosis and battle with cancer with humor and determination. Just 23 at the time of his death, his family established the Greg Wolf Fund to honor his memory.
The entire Wolf family and friends got behind the 2006 event with unprecedented support financially with sponsorships and silent auction donations as well as their presence during the entire 4 days. This was the first year the event had expanded to four days. George made a great speech that year about his son, the type of person he was and his desire to help other patients financially and with other support which is the mission of the Greg Wolf Fund. This was the first year that basketball director Jim Bolger recommended that all SJE teams get involved for the first time. Now with a silent auction of nearly 100 items, the event raised $15,000.
